Essential oils for sleep
The scent most often reached for at night is lavender, and it is the obvious starting point. A deeper choice puts chamomile and cedarwood underneath the lavender — heavier, grounded, and less sweet — which is the direction we took with REPOSO. What the good ones share is not an effect you can measure at home. It is that they are quiet enough to repeat, and repetition is what the body learns from.
A scent worn at the same point every evening becomes a signal before it becomes a preference. That is the whole mechanism, and it is worth saying plainly: the oil is not doing the work on its own. The hour you keep is doing most of it.
So choose something you can live with nightly rather than something dramatic, apply it where you will meet it again, and keep the timing fixed for two weeks before you judge it.
What actually helps
Keep the hour, not the dose
The same scent at 10pm every night will do more than a stronger one at a different hour each night. Pick the time you can keep on a bad week, not a good one.
Where to put it
The chest, the neck and the base of the foot. The chest because you breathe over it all night, the foot because it is the one place the scent is not competing with anything else.
For a mind that will not stop
If the problem is thoughts circling after the lights are off rather than tiredness, the point of the ritual is to give the attention somewhere to go. Three slow breaths from the wrist or the chest, counted, is the whole technique.
The pillow and the room
A pillow mist or a diffuser works as well as skin, and for some people better — the association is with the room, not the body. Same time nightly either way, until it holds.
What it is not
This is a cosmetic product for external, aromatic use. It is not a sleeping aid and is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent anything. Persistent sleeplessness is worth taking to a doctor, not a bottle.
The evening ritual
- Put the phone down first. The blend cannot compete with a bright screen.
- One pass at the chest and the neck, and at the base of each foot.
- Three slow breaths, unhurried.
- Same time tomorrow. That is the part that compounds.
The blend we made for it
REPOSO 入静 is the blend in Collection 01 composed for rest — Roman chamomile over cedarwood and lavender. It moves light, then soft, then warm, then still, and fades rather than lingering. Built for the transition out of the day, not to smell like a conventional lavender sleep blend.
You know the evening that will not close — the laptop shut an hour ago and your head did not. One pass at the chest, the neck and the base of each foot, three slow breaths, and the room stops asking anything of you. Not because the oil decided it. Because you did, at the same hour, again.
Hand-blended in small batches in Malaysia, made for a single intention rather than as a general scent. Made to the Oro Standard.
Questions
Which scent is best for sleep?
Lavender is the common answer. Chamomile and cedarwood underneath it make the deeper one — grounded rather than sweet, and easier to live with every night.
Where do I apply it?
The chest, the neck and the base of the foot. A pillow mist or a diffuser works too.
How long before it does anything?
Give it two weeks at the same hour. You are building an association, and that takes repetition rather than strength.
Is it safe during pregnancy, or for children?
Our blends are made for adults. During pregnancy or breastfeeding, for anyone under 12, or with sensitive skin, speak to a doctor or pharmacist first.
